Overview
Norsca is a harsh, frozen peninsula to the north of the Empire, home to the Norse — a race of fierce warriors who worship the Chaos Gods as divine patrons. The Norse are not wholly given over to Chaos like the Warriors of the Wastes, but they raid, pillage, and seek the favour of the Dark Gods through acts of violence and daring. Their longships terrorize the coasts of the Old World, and their greatest champions ascend to become Warriors of Chaos.
History
The Norse have raided the coasts of the Empire, Bretonnia, and Kislev since time immemorial. Their proximity to the Chaos Wastes means that mutation and daemonic influence are common, and the most powerful Norse champions eventually become full Warriors of Chaos. The Norse tribes are in constant conflict with each other and with the Chaos Wastes to their north, producing a culture of relentless warfare.
Military Forces
Norse armies are built around ferocious infantry — Marauders who fight with axes and shields, Berserkers who charge into battle in a frenzy, and the feared Chaos Warriors who have received the gifts of the gods. Marauder Horsemen provide fast cavalry. Fimir — ancient swamp creatures — serve some Norse warlords. The great Chaos Warhounds and Chaos Trolls round out a force defined by aggression and ferocity.
Culture & Society
Norse culture glorifies strength, courage, and the favour of the gods. The strongest warriors lead, and leadership is constantly contested. The Norse worship all four Chaos Gods, though individual tribes often favour one patron. Raiding is both a livelihood and a religious act — the plunder offered to the gods, the violence a prayer. The Norscan shamans — Vitki — commune with the gods and interpret their will.
