High Elves

"We are the firstborn of the gods. We shall be the last."

✦ ✦

Overview

The High Elves of Ulthuan are an ancient and noble race, guardians of the Great Vortex that drains the winds of magic from the world and prevents Chaos from overwhelming reality. Proud, long-lived, and possessed of unmatched skill in both magic and martial arts, the High Elves consider themselves the rightful stewards of the world — a belief that has brought them into conflict with nearly every other race.

History

The High Elves trace their history back to the age of the Old Ones, when their ancestors were among the first civilized beings. The Sundering — a catastrophic civil war between the High Elves and their Dark Elf kin — nearly destroyed Ulthuan and created the Great Vortex. Since then, the High Elves have fought to maintain the Vortex and hold back Chaos, while managing their fractious relationship with the Dark Elves of Naggaroth.

Military Forces

High Elf armies combine unmatched individual skill with disciplined formations. Spearmen and Archers form the backbone, while Silver Helms and Dragon Princes provide devastating cavalry. The White Lions of Chrace and the Swordmasters of Hoeth are elite infantry of legendary skill. Mages trained at the White Tower of Hoeth wield the full spectrum of magical power, and the great Eagles and Dragons of Ulthuan serve as mounts for the mightiest heroes.

Culture & Society

High Elf culture is defined by artistry, scholarship, and an almost unbearable sense of destiny. The Phoenix King rules from the Shrine of Asuryan, chosen by the sacred flame. The Everqueen embodies the life force of Ulthuan. Magic permeates every aspect of High Elf life — their cities shimmer with enchantment, their weapons are masterworks of runic craft, and their scholars have mapped the winds of magic with unparalleled precision.
